Joanne is the founder of Aquabubs and an AUSTWIM certified baby swim instructor. A mother of 3, her journey in baby swimming started in 2005 when her first son was born.
"I have always loved the water and know how important it is to be able to swim from a young age. I could not find any baby swimming classes in KL at that time so I did my own research to learn how to teach my son on my own. It paid off and he could swim by the time he was 3."
She became an AUSTSWIM certified teacher in 2012 and in 2015 her dream came true when she started Aquabubs with a purpose built, heated, saltwater pool in Damansara Heights, sharing the space with a preschool. Aquabubs started with 2 instructors and 80 students and grew to 6 instructors and 200 students within a year.
2 years later, frustrated with the unpredictable Malaysian weather, she partnered with Zarina Parry, another AUSTSWIM instructor and also a mother of 3, to set up the flagship centre - an indoor, purpose-built, heated, saltwater pool in Bangsar.
Zarina is from KL, of mixed English, Malay & Chinese parentage. She was a competitive swimmer in her early teens and is an avid scuba diver. She took up teaching swimming for babies and infants with Austswim after the birth of her first child, when she couldn’t find any classes for him. In 2016, her now business partner, Joanne, asked her to work at her first swim school, in a small pool in Damansara Heights. From there, Zarina and Joanne decided to team up and build a bigger swim school in an indoor venue. When she’s not teaching and running the swim school, Zarina is busy with her 3 children and loves to go on adventures around Malaysia.
